I agree, some of those images are magic. But, and it is a big one, a clean Summar on a good LTM camera is better.

Hi Steve, I finally got my hands on a Noctilux. I think mine is the second version, with a detachable hood, and a "50" engraved on the barrel.

Is there any significant difference between the versions?

Also, mine as apparently sent to Solms Leica to be upgraded to a 6-bit, readjusted and recalibrated (I purchased it in that condition), and came back with a one year full warranty.

And it's like new in box. :)

One issue is I need to remove the lens cap whenever I want to attach or detach the hood. Is there any pinch type lens cap for 60mm?

Steve,

Just curious if this lens is still your only one...and if so, any regrets? I'm actually strongly considering selling my 7 month old, mint 35mm Summilux for this amazing lens. I've been drooling over it for quite some time...! Hesitations are cost (of course) and size, but what a gorgeous image the Noctilux yields!

Loving your reviews and insights, by the way-excellent work!

Yes, this is a monster when it is widely opened and with the sharpness at f 5.6 making all my Lecia R and M leaving inside my dry-storage box. I'm on a long match replacing lens with Summilux or above (longing for M f1.2 75mm).
My scrap rate with F1 on M6 was high but not in M8 due higher ISO. Focusing with M demand high concentration and acuity in low light and stops me at M8. If M10 features with most GF-1 or EP-2 advanced electronics, I’ll go for it.
