    • …or not! Price turned out to be too good to be true, funnily enough, with Expansys recanting.

“Unfortunately, the expected price we listed
for the product was incorrect. This was a genuine error as it was the
expected price for the body-only, not including the 35mm f1/4 lens.
The final price with the lens included will be higher, but we are
unable to confirm it at this stage.”

So, $1384 was their “real” expectation of the body-only price, but at this point their expectation’s as useful as a chocolate teapot.

      Time will tell…

      • Ive had a rethink.

R&D & technology Fuji have put into X-P1 (6×6 CFA, gen 2 hybrid VF with OVF taking different focal length lenses)
        $1400 is fair for body.

Lets face it,if it was a Leica this body would be $4000- $5000 (and we know of M8,M9 problems).

  1. Rumor site is saying that the Amazon orders was a Marketing gimmick and our orders are not valid. We should redo them. Can anybody shed some light on this….

  2. Was it really $1699 body only.

As may have been noted I really like the direction Fuji have taken with their X100,X10,X-P1
    yet $1699 for a lensless soupedup X100 !

I can only hope the real price (when funds are taken from creditcard preorders) is as on the French magazine Euro1300 XP1+35mm f1.4 (body approx Euro800-1000)

  3. I tried to pre-order the body but it appears ALL links have been pulled – including to the three lenses I pre-ordered. Anyone know what’s up? Having second thoughts amid the focus issues of the X100 and a problem which cropped up with my X10.

    matt in colorado…

  4. THIS NEW PRO FUJI MAKES ME WISH I WAS STILL WORKING. KIND OF BUT NOT QUITE. I AM RETIRED AND DO NOT WANT TO GO BACK. I JUST BOUGHT A SONY A-77 AND I AM ENJOYING IT A LOT , BUT THIS FUJI IS JUST CALLING TO ME WITH THE FAST GLASS. THIS IS GOING TO BE MY NEXT CAMERA. MY WIFE IS STILL WORKING AND SHE LIKES THE PHOTOS COMING FROM FUJI CAMERAS. WE JUST HAVE TO WAIT AWHILE FOR THIS ONE. ALL GOOD THINGS COME IN TIME. YES STEVE YOU SAID 2012 WAS GOING TO BE A GOOD YEAR FOR PHOTOGRAPHY. LOOKING FORWARD TO THE REVIEWS.

  5. Like you Kevin, I have my G1 and a full suite of lenses in my bottom draw (along with a mint Leica CL) but I live in hope that I may someday feel able to let them go.

    Sad, or what?

Keep up the good work Steve. I tried the link too. It didn’t work. So what. It will be back soon enough I am sure.

    Peter

  6. Given what happened with the NEX-7, those who got their orders in may be able to make a tidy profit on e-bay.

  7. I am gonna wait for a review and user opinions after a while of usage. As I jumped on the bandwagon for the Fuji X100 it had quite a few issues and I sadly had to return it.

I wish I had enough funds to save for D4 but I find $6k quite too steep.

    • Me too. The AF must be absolutely flawless and the lenses and IQ must be better than the x100. Body + 3 lenses = 1700 + 500 + 500 + 600 = $3300 that is a ridiculus high price for an APS-C camera even with lenses.

  8. What about a built-in flash? I saw a pic of the pro-1 with an external flash…..any ideas?
Hope Amazon opens up for more pre-orders. Thanks for all your hard work. I REALLY APPRECIATE YOU AND WHAT I LEARN FROM YOUR SITE!!!!!

    • No built in flash. With the interchangeable design the placement where the x100 has it wouldn’t have been viable / cleared the lenses. The alternate was a popup, but with the evf there I feel they probably didn’t want to make it flimsy. The addin looks quite nice, and it will hopefully be included. Especially if the guide number < 10

  9. Thank you for alerting everyone of this. I pre-ordered the lenses yesterday but for some reason cannot seem to make this link work for the camera body. Also do not see it in the Amazon site at all. Hope they did not pull it already. Thanks again for keeping us all informed. Very much appreciate your site.

      • Could it be possible that they didn’t want people to find out that the items were on Amazon and that they took them down because the camera had not actually been announced? Or is it that they had a select amount and ran out?

My thought is that they didn’t expect for people to find the link. Normally Amazon will just not take any more orders and will post up a note not to order. They did just that when they ran out of X100’s. They didn’t remove the item altogether.

Taking the X-Pro 1 down leads me to believe that they realized it was up prematurely. Similar to what Wells Fargo did.

Of course I could be wrong….

  10. At the price I think it suggests a real statement of intent. Fuji must have a lot of confidence in the IQ and performance of the X-Pro1. Looking forward to hearing about test results as and when they start arriving. 🙂

  11. Ouch that is way more expensive than I thought. I have the lenses pre-ordered still just in case that initial body only price was an error. The price is making the Nex-7 look like a bargain.

  12. Link for the camera body won’t work for me either….but…pre-ordered lenses earlier today!!!
If anyone finds a solution to get the link to work….let me know! THANKS!!!!

  13. LOL! This is pandemonium!!! Too funny. I am going to sit on the sidelines on this one and get more info and a review before I can make a decision regarding this camera. At these prices…if this camera comes anywhere close to the expectations it should be a great buy and an incredible imaging device! Hope everyone gets their pre-orders soon!

  14. All links are down. Anywho. Im sure your eager to try this diamond out. Really looking forward to your review.

  15. Such a beauty – but it’s costs more than I earn during whole month 🙁 But I’m already waiting for Steve review 🙂

    Happy New Year everybody

  16. When did this site go from one that reviewed new equipment and discussing techniques to one that encouraged readers to get onto a pre-order list before the item has even been officially launched and details of it confirmed, rather than just being vapourware?

On other threads I have read posters whose sole purpose was to be first on a waiting list, any list. Sorry, but how sad is that?

    • All Steve is doing is letting us know that the camera is available for pre-order. Since it isn’t even technically confirmed yet, meaning it won’t be available for a good while, there’s no harm in getting a pre-order in, as you can cancel anytime.

    • You clicked on an article that was clearly titled, just to come in and whine/complain/opine about the content on a free site.

      That’s what’s sad.

    • The aesthetics of this camera alone make it a hot item. This is quite possibly the camera MANY of us have been waiting years for. All Steve is doing is giving us a heads up, and hoping we use his site to click through. I see nothing wrong with that at all. I hope he makes some money off of this, and it keeps this site going.

      • Exactly – it is the camera I have been waiting for. I still hold onto my Contax G1 but with this camera I may be ready to let go and move on.

I see these posts as a reflection of Steve’s enthusiasm.

        Kevin

    • This site…my site, has been like this since day one. Look back at the Fuji X100 releases, the M lenses when they pop up in stock, and other cameras that are super high in demand and never in stock. I post these things all the time, always have but mainly only when it is a major camera or lens and it is in super demand. It is a way of letting the readers know about it so they CAN get on a pre-order list. If I didn’t post this, many here would not have found out about this and would have missed out. The fact is, there are hundreds, if not thousands who read this and have interest in this camera.

If you see it as sad that I am letting those here know about it then you do not have to read the article. You clicked on it, you read it. Why? This site is 100% free and I work every day for next to nothing because I follow my passion and LOVE what I do. I post what I feel is relevant and this is highly relevant. Ill post links again if they pop back up on Amazon. I have received MANY e-mails today from readers thanking me for posting these links and letting them know about this. To me, that is far from sad.

Anyway, you are welcomed to your opinions but Id recommend skipping these posts in the future if you feel they are so sad. Thanks Calvin

      Steve

      • Well Steve, I think he has a point. It’s one thing to let the readers know this is out, another to “be the first!” like “keep up with the Joneses” type consumerism. I have also notice a slant towards the feeding frenzy of latest and greatest, which I really think hurts photography more than helps it.

Sure, it’s your site and of course you can do as darn well you please. But it sure seems to have gone into a bit of a shift to consumerism, and away from photography. And of course that’s my opinion.

        • +1

More about buying, little about shooting. Anyway I’m off out to take photos with my 52 y.o. way out of date camera.

      • Steve, please don’t feel like you need to justify what you do to trolls like Calvin. For many of us who are excited about this new camera’s potential, we appreciate you letting us know how to get on the pre-order lists ASAP to reduce our wait time. And the fact that clicking on your link helps reduce the cost of operating this very useful website is a huge plus for me. You have been incredibly helpful with your reviews and tips, and I’m very happy to be able to give something back in return.

    • Stop being so arrogant and self centered Calvin! This site ain’t about you! As it never cares about you! It is made for others and if you don’t like it then just let the rest of others enjoy it.

      • Well said and I agree. I’m only sorry that I missed the pre-order opportunity as the Amazon link is down.

      • I’m sorry if my post offended you. But seriously, I asked a question and made one comment. How exactly is this arrogant and self centered? Maybe you need to chill before coming on so strong with the personal insults.

I acknowledge that this is Steve’s site and he can do with it what he wants. I was just voicing my opinion.

    • You are not the only one that has noticed this. It’s not just the notice that you can order this camera if you are interested but the hyper enthusiastic feeding frenzy feel about it. Nothing to do with photography.

      • I totally agree with Calvin and Raist3d. I saw similar posts about preordering on other websites but it was along the lines here is the information so do whatever you want with it and this was mirrored in the type of comments people left on these sites nothing remotelly hyperconsumeristic like here…

Calling someone troll just because he has different opinion is really ridicilous.

  17. Is the link working for anyone still? I get a error and searching Amazon comes up with nothing.

  18. One thing I find odd. My Amazon order of the lenses show as just a preorder. My body order shows “Shipping Soon” which is odd as my Amazon orders never show shipping soon on an out of stock item. I usually see this the day before it ships, and am usually charged when it says this. DOes anyone else’s say “shipping soon” on the body?

    • mine says not yet shipped. maybe you got an extra early pre-order and will get the camera well ahead of all of us? 😀

    • Mine also says ‘shipping soon’ which I also find odd. It is listed as Feb 9th availability just like the lenses but the status in my order status page is different. Can’t wait!!!!

    • I have a feeling Fuji is in this to win it. They are not f’ing around. It would not surprise me if they shipped this camera early. One of the most common complaints I ever here is how bad these companies are at getting their products to market. (flooding and tsunami aside). Fuji is clearly customer focused, and this just may be another aspect that they have listened to and will deliver on….. Pardon the pun 😉
