Daily Inspiration #329 by Artjom Kutuzov

Hi Steve !

My name is Artjom Kutuzov, i’m from Estonia, from Tallinn. I like your site very much, for its great reviews, for daily inspiration and for atmosphere, thank you !

I’m only 16 years old, and started photography 3 years ago. I like b/w pictures more than color ones. I want to learn photography all my life, and my goal is to be better in this art.

I’m only beginner in photography world, but i like it, because it’s interesting and fun ! Sorry for my English, my native is Russian and Estonian languages.

First portrait shot “square” i made in my school with Yashica Mat 124G(Kodak Tmax 400), two others i made on Canon 5DmkII with 135L wide–open. All three made in Estonia, second shot (house) made in Paldiski town. Third i made when it was very windy in Tallinn.

My favorite genres are : Abstract, Landscape, Street, Portrait, but my goal now is to try get better in portraits.I like atmospherical portraits, not studio work.

Wish great shots for all readers and especially for Steve for your site !

Keep it as amazing, as it is now !

  1. Great work Artjom. You have talent and your maturity is beyond your age. (I know this. I have a 16 -8year-old son.)

  2. I love the texture and composition from your third shot- very good photography. I hope I was that good when I was your age.

  3. I’m still transfixed on your third picture. It’s a good thing I’m sitting down. Hahahaha.
Keep up your awesome work. You already have a lot of fans here.

  5. The wave shot is spectacular. i would be interested in finding a way to get a large enough file from you that i could have a large print of it to put on my wall. how could we make this happen?

  6. Hi
    Thanks all for suggestions !
Some people asked for print of the second shot, i’m not selling prints, all my art is absolutely free, but i cant sign it.
    Let me explain :
I’m just teenager and all my gear was bought by our family not by me, so i get all from parents, thanks for them, so i can’t charge for my photos, if you want something, i can send for all or share free, but only for personal use.
Thanks for attention, and good response.

  7. Artjom, the third one here, the building, is my favorite of these three. It’s a type of composition I would like to be able to see in the world and take myself.

Your Flickr stream is marvelous, I made you a contact there. I’m a beginner, too, here’s mine.

    Happy shooting,

  8. The wave shot is absolutely sublime and spendid
Any chance of purchasing a signed print?

  9. Remarkable photographs. No 2. is phenomenal and I love the composition and compartmentalist, abstract detail in No.3.

A real artist in the making here!

  10. u’ve really done great for ur age 😀
nice tonality on ur photoworks.. and it’s nice to see someone who still shoot with the classic TLR nowadays
I agree with the others, the 2nd wave shot is simply amazing
keep up the good work and keep sharing man! 🙂

  11. Can feel the energy in the wave shot. perfect timing.

    Building shot is amazing too.

    All the very best.

  12. Perfect timing on the wave, you’ve got great eyes for details. The balcony shot is very impressive to me. The straight lines with balance uniform layers of the building is a unique detail shot. Can’t wait to see what you capture next. Ry

  13. Great pictures! They are all wonderful, but the second picture, of the waves, is breathtaking. An award winner, no question. If you keep using your eye like this, I can only imagine what you’ll be like in a few years. Thanks for sharing!

  14. Your second shot is Win (timing, setup, and execution all together), I will agree, but the third one demonstrates a good eye for pattern and detail.

  15. I found these impressive and inspiring. At 16 I too loved photography and still do. You have a talent my friend. Nurture it.

  16. Fantastic shots Artjom! Do continue your studies and say major in engineering or another profession to which you can make a livelihood. Photogs are basically starving artists and have a hard life. You do not want to wish that on your family or yourself. Then when you make enough money through a good paying career, you can enjoy photography as much as you want, including being Leica gear! Best wishes and high regard!

    • I agree with Florian, possibly the worst advice. Artjom has a great eye for interesting patterns, objects and especially composition (hence being in Steve’s site i think).

Also you dont need a Leica as shown in the pictures to enjoy photography.

    • Art is basically cheap. We all have that talent within. One nice wave shot and maybe a few later is not likely to pay for basic living expenses, especially when one lacks business sense as shown by offering it for free. Therefore, unless you have a trust fund, my advice to young people is to get an education, learn about business and personal finance, and treat photography as a hobby and luxury. Be real, study hard when young, and treat these rich man’s pursuits when you later have a good paying job. You’ll then even likely be able to afford Leica. Any other advice comes from Neverneverland and Peter Pan or artsyfartsies. This is the reality of the digital revolution. Photography as a profession is basically dead and/or for paupers. You need not take my word or others. Just think through the logic and reality of the situation, and I think you’ll come to a similar conclusion.

    • Hi
I’m not pursuiting best education or being best photographer, as well as i’m not pursuiting leica gear and other goodies.
I want to produce strong images, but not work in photography, so it’s free, not the lack of business sense, just because i like to give it free, because i get it free – that’s right.
I want to learn another profession. Photography is passion.
You all have different points of view, because all of you are adults with stable point of view.
Will be very right if i don’t listen to any advises in internet, due to listen more my parents point of view. I’m not going to say that your’s point of view is bad, but for my life i have parents.

      • Artjom:

You are 16 only in years- I can see from your images, your thoughts and connection to your family that you have a wise & old soul. Just be. Keep seeking the questions, not the answers. Good Luck to you. Nice work.

  17. Artjom, you have a natural eye for composition and framing your subjects. This is a big advantage because it can only be taught to a certain degree. Your toning is excellent (we used to call it B&W printing). Keep shooting! The most important advice anyone can give you is: “Follow your heart!”

  18. Wow! Even somebody who is no photography pro like me can appreciate the energy in the photo of the waves. Your pictures served as a wonderful daily inspiration! Keep up the good work.

Trying to shoot few, but powerful photos.

  19. Absolutely brilliant. The waves shot is the best of all, but overall very good. Keep up the good work.

  20. Some very good pictures there – especially the second and third shots are superb, the second being my favorite. Stunning!

  21. That ocean wave shot is magnificent! One of the best shots I have seen on Steve’s site and a definite contest winner in my mind. In fact you should try to sell prints of this shot online, it is that good. It has real life energy, primal and moving. The film captured it in a way that is hard to replicate in digital. You are off to a really good start. Keep exploring the play of light and shadow and texture.

    • He said the wave was with digital. It’s hard to replicate digital with… digital?

    • I agree entirely, but surely from his description this shot is actually digital not film.
