Woohoo! For all of those waiting for the super sexy black X100s, your wait is almost over. In fact you can pre-order the camera NOW at B&H Photo for $1299, the same cost as the silver version. While not a special edition like the X100 black version was, no need to pay $1500+. So for many, this is a good thing. The X100s will ship in February. You can also pre-order at Amazon HERE. PopFlash has it HERE.

  1. I bought a second hand silver version X-100, firmware 2.0, a couple of months ago and it resuscitated my photography after a dip of nearly fifteen years, during which period I couldn’t find a good and affordable digital alternative for my M6.
Surely the black version of the overhauled X100 being the X100s is a love at first sigh(t) for me.
It wil be my next camera.

  2. when the x100s was announced last year, i preordered one and then canceled the order. instead i bought a x20 which i like allot. thought the x100s was just too much money. still wanted the x100s. then i saw the x100s black was on the way. well i just preordered the black x100s and this time i don’t think i’ll cancel the order. i’m glad i waited for the black version, but i still think it’s a lot of money.

  3. Hey Steve,

Amazon says the release date for the black X100s is March 8. I went to the B&H superstore in NYC today and they called the buyer saying there was no information about a specific release date. I was just wondering what source says the camera will ship in February. Would I be better off buying from B&H than Amazon?

    Thanks!
    Sam

  4. no kidding-I wanted a black x100s when it first came out but fuji said “NO BLACK WILL BE AVAILABLE” so I bought a silver one and turns out I have liked the silver colour ever since I got it-looks nicest with a black case and black hood IMOHO…

  5. For the quiet, deliberate, observational style of shooting , this is probably the perfect camera.

Sensibly priced. Lovely quality. Simple to learn and to use. And with exquisite results in skilled hands.

  6. Awesome. I’m torn between the X100 and the X100s. Does anyone know how big the gap between the X100s and the X100 with the latest firmware is, as far as AF speed and accuracy? I’m leaning towards the X100 as I had it before. Loved the output, but not the crappy AF (updated firmware once, can’t remember which version). As far as the X100s goes, it seems to be very solid…but the colors seem a bit dull from some of the images i’ve seen.

    • I have the updated X100 and I have played with the new X100s. The biggest difference for me is that the X100s has an extra stop better ISO performance. The X100 is clean at 1600 and okay at 3200; the X100s is clean at 3200 and still okay at 6400.

AF is good on the X100 now, but the X100s is still a touch faster and more accurate in low light. The X100s also tracks movement much better. But for my needs, the X100 is great.

The buttons and knobs are also a bit nicer and snappier on the X100S – not a big deal, but a bonus.

As far as IQ, I don’t see a big difference either way. I think the sensor difference gets exaggerated in reviews.

The three things I want to see in the next upgrade are: (1) one-button flash on/off. I don’t like having to go into the menu to switch on the flash, (2) a lock switch so that buttons don’t accidentally get pushed, and (3) a slightly faster lens – maybe 1.8 or 1.7. Really, I’d like the lens to be sharper and more contrasty at f2.0.

      • My wife is 50. With the X100 she looks 35. With the X100S she looks 60. Every time she looks at an X100S picture of herself and says she hates it.

The S accentuates dark shadows. Wrinkles are deeper. darker.

My X100 Makes my 80 year old mother look 55.

    • I have the x100 and rented the x100s for a weekend. The x100s wasn’t quite enough of an upgrade to justify buying it, but if I didn’t own the x100 I would definitely get the x100s. You get an extra stop (3200 is really good) and the autofocus is noticeably better, although I used the x100s before the latest x100 firmware upgrade, which sped up the autofocus.

    • Between the X100 and X100S. I also think that the biggest difference in sensor ir mostly in high ISO department.
X100S has double exposure, new colour profiles. Haunts less in low light. Faster raw processing time and it has the Q menu. Better video AF too(that matters to some).

Still I am very happy with the X100 original. It is a keeper! For me it is.

    • The X100 with the latest firmware is just great, shot a day with it doing street stuff last month and I really can’t see how spending £1000 on an X100s makes any sense compared to £400 on a good used X100.

i.e – Is the Fuji X100s 60% BETTER than the original X100 now? Answer = No.

So unless money is no object …….

    • Yeah, kind of makes the delay more forgivable in some weird way. :p I lust for this one, currently owning the X100, but Firmware 2.0 was such a huge deal for me that I at least only lust for it half as much now…

      • I have to agree. I still have the original X100 from 2 years ago and with the latest firmware, I just can’t justify the “upgrade.” I do lust after the black color, but I’ll be hanging onto the original for a while!

        • I have the original X100 in black that I got refurbished. It is great. I compared it to the X100S and here is the age of my wife due to deeper wrinkles and shadows of the X100S:

          Age of wife is 55
X100 age of wife she looks 35
X100S age of wife she looks 70

The X-Trans makes shadows and blacks blacker, so wrinkles look deep
The X100 makes people look younger, my 80 year old mother looks 55
