Japan with Leica M-P 240

By Dan Bar

Hello Steve,

Here i am again hoping sending some more photos from Japan with my Leica M 240 hoping you will like them Japan is a colorful country especially in October and November when all the leaves turn red which is the most wonderful scene to watch. Japan is a great country for photographers as Japanese people seemly love to take photos and be photographed , which is a blessing for street photographers.

I took my Leica MM as well but the beauty of this country simply forces you to shoot color

As for the M 240, I really fell in love with the camera. I  know i was skeptical about it after shooting for so many years with the M9 ( had to sell it in order to buy the M-P 240). but the ease ,the great shutter sound , and the fantastic results with Leica lenses ( 50 LUX, 35 LUX ) made me completely change my mind.

Thank you,

Danny

  1. One of my favorite sets of photographs I’ve seen posted on this site. All are winners. I shoot an m9 personally and love it to death so I’m still skeptical about needing to “upgrade” but glad to hear the m240 is working for you.
    All the best,

    • I need a M-P cause I’ve many R-lenses and I can use them on the M-P/240 with an adaptor. Nice idea. I use a M8 for B/W shooting and a V-3 as backup. Well, my favorite is the Digilux 2, even they are a bit slow, old, but perform great if you take your time.

  2. All the photos are excellent, but the fourth photo from the top is my favorite–the one of the lady in the gray canvas hat looking downward.

I lived and worked in Japan for two years and loved every minute of it. The Japanese are a delightful folk. You captured the essence of Japan well in these photos.

  3. Very nice photography. Color seems to be a good choice for this subject. You cannot regret buying the M 240, even more so after last weeks reports about the white spots on the M9 sensor. I hope though that Leica will make a M-E with the M sensor soon. I just don’t want a rangefinder camera with liveview, video and EVF connectors….

    • Leica will replace all defect sensors of the M9 and ME for free, no matter how old the camera is and how many owners it had. So you get and enjoy the last CCD sensor FF camera worry free.

  4. Nice shots! I am in love with Japan too. I been living there for two years and my wife is japanese. Looking forward to go back there with my beloved monochrom.
I like the one with the girl commuting. Thanks for sharing!

  5. Dan.
Very beautiful colors and thay have the look of Leica.
in all pictures we can see highest quality of the lenses, expressed in great detail and contrast.

I especially liked the image of the umbrella girel, and chubby cop image.

  6. Nice work, Danny. I particularly like #14. I’d love for you, as a very experienced B&W shooter, compare 240 B&W conversions with your MM shots.
