Daily Inspiration Bag Giveaway #19

by Tom Le Vine

Hi Steve

All three images were taken on a flight between Durban (SA) and London at (I guess) 33,000+ feet. All shot with the A7II with the 55 1.8 Zeiss. Window seats for the win!

The pink lake was somewhere over Iran

DSC01118 (Custom)

The misty mountains were somewhere over Albania

and of course the cityscape was Dubai with the Burj Khalifa

As always, great site and great community. Cheers

Tom

  1. I could not refrain myself to comment on your post.
I am an airline pilot myself, and fly over this beautiful pink lake almost every week.
It’s Lake Urmia like you said in Iran, next to the border with Turkey.

I always have my camera with me during my flights, and take infrared pictures from the flight deck.
I believe to have nice aerials, that you can check at http://irworld.pw.

I’m thinking to do a post one day to share the beauties I see from above when travelling the world.

  2. I think you are probably totally correct with the height @al! It was about 5-10 mins after take off.

  3. No tiltshift style in that one…just a combination of double layer aeroplane window (I think) and lots of dust in Dubai.

  4. Also…we took off from Dubai…so I guess its a few feet less than 36000. You have a very valid point.

  5. I was really happy with how they came out. Joys of full frame and forcing my wife to swap seats 😉

  6. A bit of cropping and some boosting the clarity in LR thats all. If you look at the bottom edge thats the bottom of the window causing the ‘vignetting’. 🙂

  7. I believe Tom blurred the further-distant background in a way similar to tilt-shift processing to achieve the desired effect.

  8. In fact.. I’m pretty sure that’s taken from around 4-5,000ft on the departure lane from Dubai Airport…

  9. The 3rd shot doesn’t look like it was taken at 36,000ft with a 55mm lens. Just sayin’.
