PRESS RELEASE: Leica Camera introduces M-Sets for an into to rangefinder Photography!

New Leica M-Sets offer the perfect introduction to rangefinder photography

Photographers can choose their own, ideal M-System from a multitude of camera and lens combinations for their preferred camera kit with special pricing incentives

February 9, 2017 – Like no other camera, the Leica M stands for a special kind of photography – discreet, close to the action and focused on the essentials. In addition to the existing pre-set bundles with the Leica M (Typ 262) and M7 cameras, Leica now presents a new range of configurable camera and lens sets featuring the Leica M (Typ 240), M-P (Typ 240) and M Monochrom (Typ 246) models that offer customers the opportunity to experience Leica M-Photography at new and advantageous prices.

Now available for a limited time is a special sales offer that enables customers to create their own, personal M-System from a multitude of different camera models and lenses. Customers can choose from the following camera models: the Leica M (Typ 240), featuring a high-resolution, full-frame 24MP CMOS sensor, Live View and full-HD video, the Leica M-P (Typ 240) with a sapphire glass monitor cover, frame selector and 2GB buffer memory and the Leica M Monochrom (Typ 246) with a black-and-white full-frame 24MP CMOS sensor. Each of these cameras can be combined with nearly any Leica M-Lens from the current portfolio – a total of 19 M-Lenses – to create a customized set. An overview of the available configurations can be viewed at us.leica-camera.com and consumers can visit their local Leica Store, Boutique, or Dealer to configure their Leica M-Set of choice.

The already existing range of pre-set bundles includes entry-level options with the Leica M (Typ 262), an M-Model that forgoes Live View and video capability to concentrate on the core functions essential to photography. These sets are offered in three different versions: with a Summarit-M 35 mm f/2.4 ASPH. or Summarit-M 50 mm f/2.4, or with two lenses, a Summarit-M 35 mm f/2.4 ASPH. and a Summarit-M 75 mm f/2.4 ASPH. Each of the three bundles also includes a Leica SF 40 flash unit and a robust, water-repellent ‘The Bowery for Leica’ canvas bag made by ONA.

Leica has also not forgotten the lovers of classic, analog photography – the Leica M7 analog camera in black chrome finish is also available in a bundle together with a Leica Summicron-M 50 mm f/2 high-performance lens.

  1. HELP! I cannot find how this “Set Sale” is suppose to work. I looked at Leica AG website, several Leica stores and private Leica dealers with no success. What is the savings and how does it apply to body and lens combinations other than previously offered M262 and Summarit choices?

I am interested in a M240 MP and 35mm Summicron. Can anyone explain how the Set Sale would apply or effect the pricing?

    Thanks for any information.

  2. Hi Steve!

I’m confused. I thought that my Leica M3 was an introduction to rangefinder photography. Was I mistaken?

    • Yea, but those new to RF today would not have interest in an old antique M3. They want digital, so this is for newbies to RF for the modern age.

      • I think the option of having say the M10, M246, and M-A film (or MP film) would be a fantastic collection of M cameras covering it all. Hmmm….now that I’ve written it, I think I’ll try to build that very collection!

    • You don’t seem to be a venture capitalist, or at least a lawyer. Hell, not even a dentist.
