The Best Beard Oil and Care on Earth from Kuhn.

Since November of 2022 I have been trying out various beard products such as oil, balm, butter, wash, conditioner and more for my beard and not all are created equal! In fact, I have found only 2 companies I would continue to buy from and I have changed it up for 2026 with a new top favorite While I still use my #2 this brand has really worked very well for my beard health and style.
The guy behind Kuhn, Chris, is also a top notch guy and has crafted amazing products that cure beard itch and dry beards and is great for white or grey beards as well. These products are top tier, some of the best I have used and they are some of the best prices around. Scents? Yea, excellent.
Me a few years ago at age 51 before I started the beard journey. It’s taken me this long to try countless brands of oils, butter, clam, wash and conditioner to truly find what I feel is the best. I’m nutty like that.
I Blew BIG Cash on Beard Oils to find my Best
I have spent over $8,000 on beard products over the last 5 years from over a dozen companies, testing their oils and butters so YOU DO NOT HAVE TO! That sounds insane, because it is. Beard Oil? Yes indeed, I may have a problem but now that I found one that works fully for me in my older age (56) I plan on sticking with this years fave for years to come and if you want amazing quality, gorgeous packaging, superb pricing and scents that are among the best I have experienced…read on.
I have tested products from boutique companies like BeardBrand (3/10), Live Bearded (4/10), Honest Amish (6/10), Artius Man (6/10), Fable (1/10), Black Rebel (8/10), Beard Octane (6/10), Luxurious Bastard (8/10), Bearded Brotherhood (6/10), Dr.Nicks (4/10), Sphinx (6/10), The Beard Struggle (5/10) as well as many many others. I mean, I tested their oils, balms, butters, wash and even colognes if offered. There were more as well along with some department store brands that were the worst of them all. The numbers above are the scores I give them for product quality and scents, just my opinion for my skin and beard.
OF ALL OF THESE I HAVE TRIED ONE STANDS OUT FOR ME. This brand is Kuhn and they offer some of the best oil and butter I have ever tried. They work with sensitive skin and the scents are wonderful WITH LASTING POWER yet they don’t shout. They get a 10/10 for quality and scents.
Before I get to Kuhn Products and explain why they are so damn good, what does beard oil do? Butter? Balm?
Well, over my 56 years on this earth I have tried to grow a beard many times. In the years past I would stop and shave due to one main reason. My skin would get irritated, dry, flaky and beard dandruff would be awful! It would get so bad at times the skin under my chin would be raw from itching. I also did not know I had to grow the neck beard to keep it full. No my bearded friends… chin straps are not a good look! It was not until I had superb beard care that I was able to grow it out and now I love it, have no itch or issues.
The Mahogany Scent from Kuhn is so so so good. It’s a bit potent and string but wowzers. Sophisticated and Sexy so says my wife. It’s got depth, it has swagger and the quality of oil and butter is a 10/10.
A great Beard Oil soothes the skin, keeps it from drying out and promotes healthy beard growth, and also helps the beard to grow faster. Since I started using beard oil, my beard grows so much faster, fuller and softer though not all brands help your beard. I have found a couple of brands oil that seemed to harm my beard. My skin is super sensitive and seems to be getting more sensitive as I get older and I have noticed rashes under the beard from some fragrance oils used with some brands of oil.

After finding the right beard care I have no more itchy skin, dandruff, rawness, rashes or issues. Instead I have perfect smooth and hydrated skin under the face fur. I use Beard Butter mainly at night to nourish the beard and skin while I sleep. I sometimes use it with oil during the day. When using specific beard wash, conditioner, oil and butter/balm my beard really started to get bigger, fuller, softer and looking so much better.
Not all oils are created equal as some use an inferior carrier oil blend that can irritate your skin or even cause breakouts. My skin has always been somewhat sensitive to some oils like coconut (causes me to breakout) and I have looked for a blend that soothes rather than irritates. One that nourishes the skin and beard both. I have found great oils in the past from places like Black Rebel and Luxurious bastard but I just love the oil here from Kuhn. It’s non greasy like BR and it’s more on the light side vs heavy and thick. This oil never irritates my skin yet some of my old faves started to recently due to my allergies and sensitivities.
Kuhn Products are hand crafted in small batches right here in the USA in Utah.
I have also found most department store brands (wal mart, target, etc) use ingredients that are not natural (bad for our skin) or use inferior quality carrier oils (bad for our beards). Some of these messed with my skin, even the expensive brands. I would stay away from store brands as they are not good for your skin and use inferior ingredients to small batch companies.
Here I am with a 5 month beard in 2025. Wearing Kuhn Mahogany Oil and Beard Clay here. The Clay helps keep the styling smooth and manageable without feeling sticky, thick or weird. I saw an instant improvement to the softness and fullness with Kuhn. Excuse the dirty mirror.
For 2026 I am using Kuhn and Black Rebel both as I love their scents, oil quality and overall vibe. Simply the best I have found after trying them all. Of course, this is for me, my beard and is my opinion. Yours may differ as there are many other very good beard care companies out there.
My #1 Fave for 2026 is Kuhn. Cold Pressed Oil, Beard Clay and Butter…superb scents. No gimmiks.
When I finally did get to try these products from Kuhn I was simply stunned at how good they were. I first received an Oil in the Mountain Forest scent (very light but so nice) along with a couple of Beard Butters. Well, really it was the ultra unique Beard Clay that uses Kaolin Clay along with other nourishing ingredients that I got a hold of.
The Beard Clay is smooth as silk and works wonders for my beard. Non greasy, non stiff but great hold and conditioning. Great for longer beards. Standard butter I feel works better with shorter beards. Balm will be for stubborn longer beards for control.
This “Beard Clay’ is an all out game changer of a product for my beard as it is luxurious, soft and so silky yet makes my beard super soft and also brings styling properties yet it’s never sticky, gooey or weird feeling. Feel in beard is so so good. I first received Black Rain and Cherry Pipe in the beard clay and these got me addicted to Kuhn very fast.
Cherry Pipe is so good if you enjoy a deep, somewhat dark cherry scent that is never overpowering yet doesn’t disappear for 6 hours or so, maybe longer. These scents do not “project” loudly into a room to where everyone in the room will stare at you but rather you will be treated to these scents all day for yourself or someone close to you. My wife said “order the oil ASAP in this scent”! I asked her which one and she said “ALL OF THEM”! Lol.
Kuhn offers many other products such as soap, co wash and a bevy of coolness such as super cool storage boxes for your oil and butter. The Co Wash is as good as I have tried and I have some soap on the way to try out as well.
I loved my initial order so much I went back and bought 5 more scents in oil and butter. Then I made another order for two more with some soap and more co wash! This stuff is insanely good and such a great value for what you pay. There are no gimmiks here either, no weekly or monthly scents either. Instead, just a solid collection of scents and quality for a great price with very well chosen solid scent choices.
OK MY FAVE 5 SCENTS FROM KUHN for NOW. When I try more this may change but these are all 10/10.
- Mountain Whiskey – What?!?! Love this one as I can smell the honey ever so gently throughout the day along with the whiskey but it’s not a lo0ud whiskey vibe, just enough there to be addictive with the honey. It’s not as it sounds really but better. My fave scent right now but this changes every now and again.
- Mahogany – Well damn. I did not expect this but this has strength yet is super smooth, sexy and just so good. I am addicted to this one and it reminds me of one of my favorite scents ever from the past called “Cash” from Black Rebel yet this one is a bit different. It is also SMOOTH. A must try. My wife says it smells like cashmere feels. This one is the strongest scent from Kuhn I have tried so beware, it is potent and will last for hours. May be too much for some.
- Bair Canyon – Described as a wintery type of forest scent … again…WOW!! The scent here is also addictive and it does remind me of walking in snowy mountains among the pines. So good with a nice strength to it and also gives me some Christmas vibes. I have tried every “forest” scent there is. One smelled like Pine Sol, one like Play Doh and others smelled artificial and off. This one is the real deal. Not too strong or overwhelming but lasts hours.
- Cherry Pipe – This is a scent I have searched for …well, for a long time. I love Cherry and none of the Cherry scents I have had in the past from others hit the spot, not like this one as it’s simple yet addictive. Lasts for 6 hours easy, and is a stronger but super smooth scent. Rich, deep and so so good. Nothing is artificial here in scent either. Well done. If you love real cherry, this one is deep.
- Cedar and Amber– Again, just a killer scent that brings smoke, fire, vanilla and amber according to the website description and here is another that is just so good and so unique. Another one worth going for and a good daily.
- Black Sea – Bergamot, PLUM and Musk round out this one and I have never ever experienced a scent like this one based around PLUM! Let me tell you, it’s another banger and it’s more tame than some of the others yet still lasts for hours and smells so unique. It’s semi sweet and long lasting though not as strong as most of the scents above. It’s medium/high strength.
- Apple Bourbon – This one is nice but not what I expected. It doesn’t smell like your traditional apple scent but is deeper, richer and quite long lasting. This one is nice and a bit dark but not. It’s like a medium strength rich scent that smells pleasing.
Others I have from Kuhn:
Cedar and Leather – This one grew on me as I wasn’t a fan at first but by the 3rd application I really enjoyed it. I smell the cedar but the leather doesn’t smell like any other beard oil leather scent I have tried. Even so, this one is medium strength when it comes to scent and a rugged type of scent. I dig it but Cedar and Amber is one I prefer as that one has a little more punch.
Palo Sant0 & Musk – Had high hopes as I love Palo Santo but didn’t smell it really, just some musk. This is so light I almost thought the scent wasn’t in the product. It is, but this is a nice musky light scent. Again, this one grew on me and I wear it on those days I do not want a strong scent. This one is light, nice and stays in the background for hours.
Mountain Forest – So nice. It is not strong at all, but not so light you will not smell it 3-4 hours later. It doesn’t project and I feel I smell more of the butter vs the scent in the clay butter. I love this one though, even so, just wish it was more potent in scent as what is here is fantastic. It doesn’t smell at all like a forest to me (I live in one) but is pleasant nonetheless.
Misty Mountain – Another very light scent though it has a very pleasant light and uplifting kind of scent. Not dark at all. I really do not smell it at all in the clay butter but the oil is awesome. VERY light.
Birchwood – Very light, smooth and yet I love the scent here. Smells just as I thought it would. Not the most depth but pleasant. I read the website description and do not get any of that at all. For me, it’s a light wood scent, and it smells like real wood vs fake. Enjoy this one for the light days.
White Sand – Not at all what I expected though I like the scent. It reminds me of a couple of other brands scents but overall this one is mid strength and I get a powdery kind of scent here. It’s fresh and hard to describe but fresh, very fresh. I like this one and it is medium strength.
Also I have been trying the Soap and Co Wash from Kuhn. By day 3 with the Co Wash my beard was the softest it has EVER BEEN. This stuff is the real deal. It works as a light wash and conditioner though I found 3-4 days per week to be great. This bested every other wash and conditioner I have tried. Amazing and I ordered 3 more bottles in my fave scents with more soap as well. The soap is of superb quality for the skin and since switching over to Kuhn for oil, butter, wash, conditioner my beard is super soft, skin is blemish free and at times glows. Also, I have never before gotten compliments on my beard. Since using Kuhn I have gotten TWO in the last week! Crazy.
My beard with Kuhn products has never been softer. easier to style or healthy. These products are a game changer.
CONS? None that I can find that are awful. Shipping can be slow. My last order took 3 weeks from order to arriving. Seems he may run out of ingredients at times and this will delay the shipping. I have had orders shipped within 2 days and others about a week or so. Even so, worth the wait as the product quality is a 10/10.
PROS? Everything. The owner is a great guy who is very down to earth, no ego, and this is cool to see. Amazing customer service. He has crafted some superb scents that sit in super quality products for our skin and beard and well being. Chris seems to have a passion for what he does here (it shows) and for me, makes the best beard products we can buy today for our skin and beard health at the best prices. There are many beard products from others that are stellar. I love Black Rebel as well and use a few of their scents that do not mess with my allergies but so far Kuhn, none of these have given me issues and they just work well.

My other fave is Black Rebel Beard as they offer some superb scents and use tallow for the butter and ostrich oil as the main ingredient in the oil. Superb stuff and long lasting scents. New scents monthly.
