Steve Huff Photo now accepting donations!

Since starting this website I have had many e-mails asking me why I do not accept donations. I always wanted to keep any information here 100% free, and somehow felt odd asking for donations. Well, the time has come to where I HAVE to start accepting donations so I can keep this website going not only full steam ahead, but make it even better with even more updates, news and reviews. At the upper right you will see a donate button for using Google Checkout. I had paypal there but they are already giving me headaches, and I am not a paypal fan due to an issue I had 7 years ago with them. They already “limited” my acct due to the donation activity so I will only use google checkout from now on, unless paypal gets its act together.

Anytime you feel like helping support the site you can. $1, $5, $10, $25 or any amount you wish. ANYTHING will help me pay for this site to keep making it better and better. Just use the handy links at the upper right hand side.

I want to thank ALL of you for the amazing support through the comments and e-mail, this is what pushed me to start taking these donations and I am touched that you guys feel this site is worth it πŸ™‚ THANK YOU ALL!

Steve

  1. Steve, Gladly made a donation, but just went through 15 minutes of Google Hell and it totally screwed up my business accounts. From some points of view, Google checkout is kind of backwards. But we persevere. Thanks for everything you do πŸ™‚

  4. I’ve just made a small donation. I was proselyted by your site and have become to be a Leica M7 user since last week.

  5. Great to have you back, heck because of you Leica made mucho dinero in the past few years, they should let you shoot ANY Leica for free!!

I, like many others, was moved deeply by your images made with your Leica M, and made the decision to jump into the Leica world.
Thank you for sharing your gift Steve!

PS Many other FAMOUS photography web sites that reviewed the Leica M system were nowhere near to convince me to try Leica in the past, in fact quite the opposite hehehe!!!

  6. Hi Steve

I visit daily, sometimes more. I just placed an order with B&H via your site. Need to work out the Google option later to help out. Also here are a couple of other items for you.

First and foremost during times like these the best thing to do is fall back on your faith. God will see you through. I know from my own experience.

Second, set a limit for the amount of donations you will need and stop the donations when you get there. Another site I know of took donations and ran into problems. I am not sure if it was their business status, tax status, or the amount of traffic to a personal website vs. a commercial site. But the amount of funding they received and the amount of time it took played a role and they had to stop taking donations for a while. So make sure your taking donations is not going to cause you problems. Talking with a lawyer or accountant may be a good idea.

  7. Fair enough, google checkout wasn’t that difficult to set up… All the best and keep up the good work!

  8. Hi Steve,

I just read this and am very sad to hear that you had to sell your M9 camera. That’s terrible. It’s even more tragic what you’re going through these days. I hope that things will work out for the best on both your parts. I know how stressful this time can be as I’ve been there before. Just keep the faith and only good will come out of this. It takes a lot of time. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

  9. Hi Steve, I can’t find the Paypal link anymore? Did you take it off? Or could I ask for setting up an Amazon-UK-Steve-Huff-support-link?

    • Sorry, had to remove the PP as they were messing with me…AGAIN! I am not a fan of paypal, so will only use google checkout. Thanks,

      Steve

      • How do they mess with you Steve? I’ve used them for years with no issue, could you enlighten us?

  10. Steve, Thank you for doing this, it is part of my daily routine – I clicked and will again soon.

  11. Nice one Steve,

It was always hard for us guys abroad to show our appreciation as it does not make sense for us to shop in those otherwise excellent stores! πŸ™‚

Keep entertaining us like only you know how to! πŸ™‚

  13. Steve,

Great to hear of your decision, so that we can help you, to help us.

Trust my donation via PayPal came through. Like Ruben Arrieta said it perfectly: “It feels good to give something back.”

Don’t give up the day job… yet!

  18. The true test of any site is in the loyalty. A lot of us will visit the site at least once a day (sometimes a lot more!) and the reason we do that is … well, we want to, we get a lot of enjoyment out of our visits, the great reviews the banter, the often hands on personal approach that Steve takes. It is a unique site in an otherwise sea of similarity. Am happy to make a donation and I am sure I speak for many of us when I say that our photography world and experience would be much poorer without SHP.com. Steve, keep it coming. I would also add that at the end of each review/article, you should make mention of the donation option and its importance as I know you have the tab and all but it is good to (in a subtle way) focus the reader’s attention regularly on his/her ability to assist. A certain other reviewer does that and I think it is fine.

As is my custom, I attach a picture from my M7 with summilux and Portra 160 NC (pulled to 50) and developed normally at the drug store.

  19. Dear Steve ! This is also the first time that i make a i paypal donation.
    ItΒ΄s simple: you deserve it.
You are doing a fantastic job so it would be unfair not receiving anything in return. By the way, a few months ago you announced you had the plan to make a recommendation guide for users of digital leica cameras . I remember you suggested a minimum price of five dollars. ItΒ΄s seems to me a splendid idea.
