Fun Friday Links! July 23rd 2010

Hey guys! It’s FRIDAY, and that is always a good thing in my book. Will be a busy day for me shooting more with the Sony NEX 5 as I am still not sure what to think of this little guy. One day I will love it, and the next I will hate it 🙂 Anyway, here are some cool links for today! Enjoy!

On my way home from Europe I sat next to and met Amy Jurries, who also runs her own full time blog dedicated to reviewing and showcasing new gear for your outdoor activities. How cool is it that I was able to talk with a fellow blog owner on a 9 hour flight? She started her site around the same time I started this one. So here is a plug for her site THEGEARCASTER.COM Check it out!

Another book by Harald Benz who is a regular reader of this site 🙂 Cool stuff!

This is freaking weird but damn, it would make a great place to shoot. These photos taken at a sex doll factory are actually pretty cool.

  1. Help me out here peeps, I can’t seem to find the photos you’re talking about! I miss the link for some reason…

  2. Amazing photos from the sex doll factory: powerful and haunting!

Esp. the shot of the feet. Reminded me of the Nazi concentration camp rooms for artificial limbs in Poland. Bold photography for sure.

… I’m not even going to ask how you found this website… 🙂

    • Ha ha…that link was sent to me by someone. I get all kinds of links sent to me and when I saw that one I thought it was VERY interesting. I liked the images!

  3. Simple logic. Demand for sex dolls must be higher than for Kodakchrome 64. That’s why there can be sex doll factories but no factory that makes Kodakchrome anymore.

    • Maybe they can stuff a few rolls of Kodachrome in the doll’s orifices. Ahem. Maybe people will buy more if there is Kodachrome 64 in them. LOL!

  4. Hey Steve, thanks for the link. I appreciate it.

On another note – I apologize for the shameless self promotion – Communication Arts’ Photography Award Annual (#51) is available in store now. I am happy to report that one of my photos made it into the book.

  5. Moogibang Parabolique? Weird, but beautifully weird. The guy from Spandau Ballet as well?

  6. I found the sex-doll factory stuff completely fascinating. Yeah, sure, a little freaky… but utterly curious and intriguing. Check out the movie “Lars and the Real Girl” (if you like indy films)…

    • Having seen Lars and the Real Girl, I actually really enjoyed the factory shots! That movie puts things in a different light (although not probably common for most ‘clients’).

  7. I thought it was pretty sad. Freak photography. Photography for freaks? Not my cup of tea. At all.

    • Forgive me but I’m curious. When you say “it’s sad, photography for freaks” what do you mean by this? The only reason I ask is because I really like these images because they’re showing me something I haven’t seen before, something other than someone’s cat shot with a Summilux wide open professing ‘amazing bokeh’. I’m a little worried you see because you were so adamant (dare I say…fanatical) in your declaration of this kind of photography being only for freaks, that I’m wondering if it makes me a freak for liking it.

I must say that I too was a little shocked that people actually do this sort of thing, I mean having, you know what, with these lifelike dolls is such a sordid affair isn’t it? In fact, sex in general is just so terribly disgusting. I shouldn’t even be thinking about it. So please help save me from finding these images….oh no…..I can’t even say it….arousing.

Is there something wrong with me?

        • Okay. Saw them. Gonna have nightmares. Yul Brynner from West World. The Stepford Wives. Any other doll or robot movies? Alien with the robots? The pictures are nice, but the faces of those dolls creep me out. Hahahaha!

          • LOL! I vaguely remember that Yul Brynner movie! I thought it was pretty cool. I went to look at the pics only after “6” made an issue out of Michiel’s comment. I thought the photos were interesting, but also found them creepy. Gotta say some of those faces look pretty realistic, which adds to the creepiness factor. Long time ago, there was this episode of either the Six Million Dollar Man or the Bionic Woman, in which they were fighting all these robot women. These photos remind me of that. Although the evil robot women had clothes on!

      • @6 “Is there something wrong with me?”.

        I have no idea.

My comments were t.i.c., although “peeping Tom” photography certainly doesn’t attract me. Tastes vary though.

  8. The factory. That’s definitely something you don’t see every day. Not even gonna ask how you happened upon that little page 🙂
