The Best Beard Oil and Care on Earth. No Contest.

Since November of 2022 I have been trying out various beard products such as oil, balm, butter, wash, conditioner and more for my beard and not all are created equal! In fact, I have found only 2-3 companies I would continue to buy from and I have changed it up for 2026 with a new top favorite that did so well, it wasn’t even close.
The guy behind this company is also top notch and has crafted amazing products that cure beard itch and dry beards and is great for white or grey beards as well. These products are top tier and some of the best I have used. Oh, this brand also has some of the best prices around. Scents? WOW!
I did go back and forth this year between 2-3 brands but after using a few again and seriously comparing more and more…as of October 2026 I have come back to KUHN for many reasons. Mainly the quality of ingredients and the scents as well as the fact that they do not irritate my skin at all, and I have very sensitive skin.
Me a few years ago at age 51 before I started the beard journey. It’s taken me this long to try countless brands of oils, butter, clam, wash and conditioner to truly find what I feel is the best. I’m nutty like that.
I Blew BIG Cash on Beard Oils to find my Best
I have spent THOUSANDS of DOLLARS on beard products over the last 5 years from over a dozen companies, testing their oils and butters so YOU DO NOT HAVE TO! That sounds insane, because it is. Beard Oil? Yes indeed, I may have a problem but now that I found one that works fully for me in my older age (57) I plan on sticking with this years fave for years to come and if you want amazing quality, gorgeous packaging, superb pricing and scents that are among the best I have experienced…read on.
I have tested products from boutique companies like BeardBrand, Live Bearded, Honest Amish, Artius Man, Fable, Black Rebel, Beard Octane, Luxurious Bastard, Bearded Brotherhood, Dr.Nicks, Sphinx, The Beard Struggle as well as many many others. I mean, I tested their oils, balms, butters, wash and even colognes if offered.
There were more as well along with some department store brands that were the worst of them all.
OF ALL OF THESE I HAVE TRIED ONLY ONE STANDS OUT FOR ME AS “THE BEST”.
This brand is Kuhn and they offer some of the finest oil and butter I have ever tried. They work with sensitive skin and the scents are wonderful WITH LASTING POWER yet they don’t shout. They get a 10/10 for quality and scents.
Before I get to Kuhn Products and explain why they are so damn good, what does beard oil do? Butter? Balm?
Well, over my 57 years on this earth I have tried to grow a beard many times. In the years past I would stop and shave due to one main reason. My skin would get irritated, dry, flaky and beard dandruff would be awful! It would get so bad at times the skin under my chin would be raw from itching. I also did not know I had to grow the neck beard to keep it full. No my bearded friends… chin straps are not a good look! It was not until I had superb beard care that I was able to grow it out and now I love it, have no itch or issues.
The Mahogany Scent from Kuhn is so so so good. It’s a bit potent but wowzers. Sophisticated and Sexy so says my wife. It’s got depth, it has swagger and the quality of oil and butter is a 10/10. THIS IS a string scent so beware! I also love Bair Canyon and Cherry Pipe. My three faves.
A great Beard Oil soothes the skin, keeps it from drying out and promotes healthy beard growth, and also helps the beard to grow faster. Since I started using beard oil, my beard grows so much faster, fuller and softer though not all brands help your beard. I have found a couple of brands oil that seemed to harm my beard as well and somehow these brands are popular.

After finding the right beard care I have no more itchy skin, dandruff, rawness, rashes or issues. Instead I have perfect smooth and hydrated skin under the face fur. I use beard butter mainly at night to nourish the beard and skin while I sleep. I sometimes use it with oil during the day. When using specific beard wash, conditioner, oil and butter/balm my beard really started to get bigger, fuller, softer and looking so much better.
Not all oils are created equal as some use an inferior carrier oil blend that can irritate your skin or even cause breakouts. My skin has always been somewhat sensitive to some oils like coconut (causes me to breakout) and I have looked for a blend that soothes rather than irritates. One that nourishes the skin and beard both. I have found great oils in the past from places like Black Rebel and Luxurious Bastard but I just love the oil here from Kuhn as there is no irritating fragrance oils being used. It’s non greasy like BR and it’s more on the light side vs heavy and thick. This oil never irritates my skin yet some of my old faves from other brands started to recently due to my allergies and sensitivities to fragrance oils.
I will admit I do keep on hand, two scents from Luxurious Bastard as I love these scents and they cause me no issues. Those are Poseidon and Dark. I also have the colognes so these are a nice “night on the town” kind of oils. Also, I keep CASH and Lucky Bastard on hand from Black Rebel as those are kind to my skin as well. I have Temple Smoke and Old Money from Beardnrand as well, and use them in balm, oil, deodorant and cologne. Even so, I find KUHN is my fave.
KUHN is gimmik free. 95% of other brands are not. KUHN uses the best ingredients, even cold pressed oils. 90% of other brands do not. The owner is nice, and customer service is rather fantastic.
Kuhn Products are hand crafted in small batches right here in the USA in Utah.
I have also found most department store brands (wal mart, target, etc) use ingredients that are not natural (bad for our skin) or use inferior quality carrier oils (bad for our beards). Some of these messed with my skin, even the expensive brands. I would stay away from store brands as they are not good for your skin and use inferior ingredients to small batch companies.
Here I am with a 5 month beard in 2025. Wearing Kuhn Mahogany Oil and Beard Clay here. The Clay helps keep the styling smooth and manageable without feeling sticky, thick or weird. I saw an instant improvement to the softness and fullness with Kuhn.
My #1 Fave for 2026/2027 and beyond is Kuhn. Cold Pressed Oil, Beard Clay and Butter…superb scents. No gimmiks. Their co-wash is also the best I have found for wash and conditioning.
I was so impressed with everything that came in from KUHN and my skin never felt better after using their oils, butters and skin care. I mean, it was instant and game changing. Seriously. I still love Black Rebel, Beardbrand (Temple Smoke fan) and Luxurious Bastard and I suggest giving them a go as well as each offers up different vibes, scents and ingredients. We all like different and those other brands are my #2, #3 and #4.
When I finally did get to try these products from Kuhn though I was simply stunned at how good they were. I first received an Oil in the Mountain Forest scent (very light but so nice) along with a couple of Beard Butters. Well, really it was the ultra unique Beard Clay that uses Kaolin Clay along with other nourishing ingredients that I got a hold of.
The Beard Clay is smooth as silk and works wonders for my beard. Non greasy, non stiff but great hold and conditioning.
This “Beard Clay’ is an all out game changer of a product for my beard as it is luxurious, soft and so silky yet makes my beard super soft and also brings styling properties yet it’s never sticky, gooey or weird feeling. Feel in beard is so so good. I first received Black Rain and Cherry Pipe in the beard clay and these got me addicted to Kuhn very fast. Cherry Pipe is so good if you enjoy a deep, somewhat dark cherry scent that is never overpowering yet doesn’t disappear for 6 hours or so, maybe longer. These scents do not “project” loudly into a room to where everyone in the room will stare at you but rather you will be treated to these scents all day for yourself or someone close to you. My wife said “order the oil ASAP in this scent”! I asked her which one and she said “ALL OF THEM”! Lol.
Kuhn offers many other products such as soap, co wash and a bevy of coolness such as super cool storage boxes for your oil and butter. The Co Wash is as good as I have tried. The soap is cheap but goes fast.
I loved my initial order so much I went back and bought 5 more scents in oil and butter. Then I made another order for two more with some soap and more co wash! This stuff is insanely good and such a great value for what you pay. There are no gimmiks here either, no weekly or monthly scents either so no FOMO, which usually is a disappointment anyway. A way to keep you spending more than anything else. Instead, KIHN just brings a solid collection of scents and quality for a great price with very well chosen solid scent choices.
OK MY FAVE SCENTS FROM KUHN for NOW. When I try more this may change but these are all 10/10.
- Mahogany (now my #4) – Well damn. I did not expect this! Mahogany has strength yet is super smooth, sexy and just so good. This one is strong yet refined, complex and it is SMOOTH. A must try. My wife says it smells like cashmere feels. This one is the strongest scent from Kuhn I have tried.
- Bair Canyon – Described as a wintery type of forest scent … again…WOW!! The scent here is also addictive and it does remind me of walking in snowy mountains among the pines. So good with a nice strength to it and also gives me some Christmas vibes. I have tried every “forest” scent there is. One smelled like Pine Sol, one like Play Doh and others smelled artificial and off. This one is the real deal. Not too strong but lasts hours. Kicks Beardbrand Norse Winter to the curb as I can actually smell this one hours later.
- Cherry Pipe (Now my #1) – This is a scent I have searched for …well, for a long time. I love Cherry and none of the Cherry scents I have had in the past from others hit the spot, not like this one as it’s simple yet addictive. Lasts for 6 hours easy where others fade within minutes with cherry. Rich, deep and so so good. Nothing is artificial here in scent either. Well done. If you love real cherry, this one is deep.
- Cedar and Amber (Now my #3)– Again, just a killer scent that brings smoke, fire, vanilla and amber according to the website description and here is another that is just so good and so unique. Another one worth going for and a good daily.
- Black Sea – Bergamot, PLUM and Musk round out this one and I have never ever experienced a scent like this one based around PLUM! Let me tell you, it’s another banger and it’s more tame than some of the others yet still lasts for hours and smells so unique.
Others I have that are lighter in scent:
Cedar and Leather – Nice and I do smell the leather and Cedar but it is not very strong so muted and stays in the background. Great scent but not one of my faves.
Palo Sant0 & Musk – Had high hopes as I love Palo Santo but didn’t smell it really, just some musk. This is so light I almost thought the scent wasn’t in the product. It is, but this is a nice musky light scent.
Mountain Forest – So nice but IMO too light. It is not strong at all, but not so light you will not smell it 3-4 hours later. It doesn’t protect and I feel I smell more of the butter vs the scent in the clay butter, I love this one though, even so, just wish it was more potent.
At 57 my beard is mostly white and without oil or butter is coarse and wiry. I will say that here in this photo I was NOT using Kuhn so you see more fly aways and dryness. The image above in the mirror was with Kuhn products. Much smoother, silkier and manageable.
CONS? None that I can find that are awful. Shipping can be slow. My last order was placed 9 days ago and still hasn’t shipped. Seems he may run out of ingredients at times and this will delay the shipping. I have had orders shipped within 2 days and others about a week or so. So shipping could be faster. Also, like everyone else this days they use USPS Ground Advantage for shipping. I would like to to see an option to pay a few bucks more for priority. Ground has taken 10 days to get to me after the package was shipped. Even so, well worth the wait as the product quality is a 10/10.
PROS? Everything. The owner is a great guy who is very down to earth, no ego, and this is cool to see. He has crafted some amazing scents that sit in super quality products for our skin and beard and well being. Chris seems to have a passion for what he does here (it shows) and for me, makes the best beard products we can buy today for our skin and beard health at the best prices. The scents are superb and rich…they last all day without any irritation.

The interesting thing is, the free stuff that gets sent, I try it out and decide how I like it. The last two who sent me boxes of free stuff never got a mention. Why? Because they were not as good as what I pay for. I do not promote products or advertise someone for $100 worth of free oil and butter, I do so only if I LOVE it. I do so only if it is exceptional. KUHN has never sent me anything for free… ever.
Bottom line? My fave brand ever is indeed now KUHN for the reasons here. Best I found for oil, butter and co-wash. For customer service and kindness. Scents are amazing as well and last long without irritation or gimmicks. There are a few great brands on the beard care arena and sadly most are “copy and paste” as beard oil CAN BE easy to make, if you make it like 90% of them do. I can whip up my own scent in minutes for less than $5 a bottle if I use what many others use as ingredients, and I have done it. It’s not rocket science.
In the sea of copy cats, I look for those who are doing it better than the others with better ingredients, better quality control and I even look at prices. KUHN is the fairest price of all and I found the quality to be the best I can find for me. Non greasy, non yellowing so great for white hair, leaves my beard soft and that butter is amazing. Just look at their reviews on the KUHN website as many agree with me. I also love the CO WASH and have it in Bair Canyon and Cherry Pipe. Leaves my beard super soft. I recently tried new scents from some heavy hitters and they left me unimpressed. One was a $200 set of one specific new scent in all products (even spray cologne) and the scent faded within 15 minutes and my beard felt greasy.
If you run a beard oil brand I am no longer seeking or looking to review new companies. I chose the one for me, so after years and years of trying it all out I am done testing beard oils. Thank You.
