Finally, the new 1.116 Leica M9 firmware will be released on Monday March 15th. It seems my crystal ball from Feb 27th was right! Here is the rundown of improvements…

2. Bug fixes:

“Max aperture value” in EXIF data corrected for the following lenses:

Wording issues in English, Japanese and traditional Chinese menus.

Various other minor bug fixes.

3. *SDHC card compatibility

The choice of SD and SDHC cards in the market is very large and is constantly growing. Therefore, Leica Camera AG is not able to do comprehensive compatibility- and quality testing with all available cards in the market. We do recommend the card types in the list below. Using other card types, will not damage camera or card, but as especially “no name” cards do often not respect the full SD or SDHC standards, Leica Camera AG cannot warranty full function with other cards than in the list.

  • Extrememory 4GB SDHC
  • hama SDHC 4 GB
  • Kingston SDHC 4GB class2
  • Lexar Professional SDHC 4GB 133x class6
  • Lexar Professional SDHC 8GB 133x class6
  • Panasonic SDHC 8GB class6
  • PNY SDHC 8GB
  • SanDisk Video HD 16GB class4
  • SanDisk Extreme III SD 2 GB
  • SanDisk Extreme III SDHC 4 GB
  • SanDisk Extreme III SDHC 4GB 30 MB/s
  • SanDisk Extreme III SDHC 8GB 30MB/s
  • SanDisk SDHC 4GB class2
  • SanDisk SDHC 8GB class2
  • SanDisk Ultra II 16GB class4
  • SanDisk Ultra II SDHC 2GB 15 MB/s
  • SanDisk Ultra II SDHC 32GB class4
  • Toshiba 16GB SDHC class4
  • Toshiba 4GB SDHC class6
  • Transcend SDHC 16GB class6
  • Transcend SDHC 1GB

  3. Hey guys, very odd but not the first time I have seen delays with Leica. My info came from a very reputable source and I did see it on Leica Rumors as well. Maybe we have been duped? Even if we were, I still think it will be coming any day now (at least I hope so). Hang in there!

  4. It’s 3 minutes before March the 16th, Seoul/Tokyo Standard Time, and no sign of updates yet anywhere! The current Solms time is 15:57, three minutes before the Leica people retire for the day.

  5. I must say i am a bit dissapointed here. Mid-day in Europe and no FW-update in sight.

You did not answer my post above about the official word about the update. Guess we all bought the Leicarumours bait.

  6. Steve, I hope that the writing speed will be faster so you don’t have to wait for ages when shooting raw.

  7. That’s one heck of a crystal ball you got there….Good to here that some of the fixes, such as the red edge issue, will be forthright…I wonder if it will matter to performance of Non Leica (i.e. Zeiss and CV) wides….

  8. So does this mean that non-leica super wides will also have the red edges fixed? Particularly the Voigtländer 21mm f/4 Color-Skopar and 18mm Zeiss f4?

  9. Isn´t this still a rumor? Or do you have official word from Leica? I wont believe it until i can download it 😉

    /Matt

  10. Steve, one of the lenses listed here for correction of maximum aperture value ion EXIF data is 50mm. f/1.2. Does that mean we will soon see such a lens offered in the line-up???????????????????

When I purchased my. M9 the seller included a 16 gb Promaster SDHC card. It has turned out be totally compatible as well as quite speedy. So for whoever might be concerned, I do recommend that brand if the price is good.

  11. Good “predictions” Steve – it’s a pity the Improved High ISO is not on the list !

What about your much awaited (by me anyway) Users Guide ? Any predictions as to when it will be available ?

    Thanks,
    Ian

  12. Hi Steve – what about an update für M8???? What does your crystal ball tell you?

    Best
    Holger
