1. Everybody was crying for an X100 with interchangeable lenses, but now we see that it now almost lost its advantage in size and weight over a cheap APS-C DSLR. Still the X100 looks great, because it fills the gap were APS-C DSLRs can’t deliver: compact size with fast wideangle prime lens.

3. My gut feeling is X-P1 IQ will be out of this world.
Just wait until it is in the hands of photographers.

Just as the X100 sample photos, these X-P1 sample photos give no indication of what X-P1 can do.
Fuji seems to get numptys to take their sample photos.
Similar thing happened with SigmaSD1 sample photos.

• “Out of this world” I expect in terms of X-P1 photos having more natural analogue look (due to redesigned 6×6 CFA)
compared to the more digital sterile of 5d2, 1Ds3, 1D3/4; D700, D3/s/x; M8, M9; Nex, S5; SD15, SD1 & upcoming 5d3, 1Dx, D4, D800.

X-P1 photos in their naturalness I expect to look as the classic 1D, D1/h, E1, Istd/s, S2pro.

4. I have a gf1 and 6 lenses but i Will love This camera, may be is time to Sel The Whole system, it look like This Will be a great year, im also waiting for The NEW nikon d800.

To much all together for me.

Greg

5. I wish they would have mentioned whether they have mentioned if they have addressed the focus issue while using he ovf. The specs make it sound like its using the hybrid evf/ovf from the x100 but if it has the same issue, that’s going to be a big problem for me. Even with the latest firmware socalled “fix”, it’s iffy at best. Please tell me it’s fixed!

6. Check out the 18mm!

7. It’s all about the results so will have to wait and see.
It’s is great to see Fuji really trying to get this right.

Always good to have competition.

Seen the hype last year fell for it then and owned the X100 for a month.
Nice images but certainly not an M9.

8. I’m waiting on Steve’s review. Body with all 3 lenses is quite expensive in this day and age.
Keep up the gr8 work Steve.

9. Does it seem a little strange for Fuji to be talking up this sensor as providing better-than-full-frame IQ, if they then later come out with a full frame camera themselves?

Apart from general marketing hypedy-hype-hype, of course.

• Oh, I’m confident that the marketeers will come up with something like: “It’s better than better than full-frame.”

• I think it’s because of the filter that is missing instead of aa filter on most sensors!

10. OH NO!, WHAT THE HELL AM I GOING TO DO WITH MY 6 LUMIX LENSES AND 5 BODIES? THE NEW FUJI IS A BEAUTY – GOTTA HAVE ONE !

11. I fully appreciate the excitement that the X-Pro 1 is generating, but as a Pentax shooter, it strikes me that the new camera body is not very much smaller than that of the K-5/K-7. The Fuji measures 5.5W x 3.2H x1.7D and weighs 14.1oz, whereas the Pentax measures 5.2W x 3.8H x 2.9D and weighs 23.3oz. In my mind, that is barely enough of a difference to matter. Attach one of the superb Pentax Limited prime lenses to a K-5, and you have a very compact, lightweight kit that sports TTL optical viewing and in-camera IS to boot.

No one knows what Pentax/Ricoh will produce as a successor to the K-5, but I expect them to follow the Pentax tradition of small, rock-solid camera bodies.

• Maybe because you can’t give those Pentax cameras away, and no one wants them. That might have something to do with it.

12. Interesting times… I cancelled the NEX7 as I needed the cash, will wait to see what the fuji is up to and see what announcements Leica will make at photokina…In the meantime I am having a lot of fun with instagram and my iPhone…lol

13. Today at 9pm London time Fuji will announce the new X PRO 1 camera. There is one particular rumor saying that Fuji will announce the development of a Full Frame mirrorless and interchangeable system. Announcement time Reminder:
4pm NYC time (16:00)
9pm London time (21:00)
10pm Berlin time (22:00)
6am Tokyo time (06:00)

14. This will still be for children, no game changer unless it had been full frame, good luck next time!! First company to provide FF in this size will take the blue ribbon.

15. I see my D90 and lenses going for sale.
Don’t know what I’m gonna do with my 1 month-old x100
Or wait for the FF unit?

• Big dilemma Felipe!
Take profit of your new X100 and just make good pictures.
A FF model will or not come in the near or the long future and you’ve to live your present.

16. Does anybody know if there is a converter for NEX E-mount cameras to these promising X-Pro 1 X-mount lenses ?

• Pretty sure Novoflex will build one. They do all possible variations – already 15 different NEX adapters listed.

• If the flange distance of X-mount is less than NEX an adapter may not work well. If is feasible then it will be done, check eBay after launch.

• .
The other way around, I think, Craig:

If the back-flange distance of the X-mount is LESS than the NEX, and thus the NEX lens needs a -l-o-n-g-e-r- distance from the sensor, then there is room for an adaptor to fit between the X-mount and the NEX lens.

That’s why old (long back flange distance) Olympus lenses can fit on the new shorter-back-flange-distance micro4/3 cameras.

• I want to put a Fuji lens on a NEX body. The F.D. of the Fuji must therefore be longer than that of the NEX to allow room for an adapter.
Craig: I agree.
David: I am not putting a NEX lens on a Fuji body. It’s the other way around.

• basically what we’re getting at is that the x-mount lenses won’t work on a NEX system, unless the X-mount adapter can somehow fit INSIDE the e-mount (depending on how narrow the diameter is for it, being a rangefinder and all). We can only hope.

17. Pretty little camera, it does look like those 6×9 Fuji rangefinders. I have an M9, but I would love to play with one of these. AF performance will be interesting.

18. More pics of the X-Pro

19. After a trip to Spain with the Sony NEX-5n with viewfinder, Zeiss 24mm 1.4 and my Leica glass resulting in fantastic photos, i’m anxiously awaiting my pre-ordered Sony NEX-7. The only thing missing on my trip was fill-flash when using a viewfinder which I will have with the NEX-7. While the Fuji looks very promising, the NEX is here any day now, highly reviewed with almost no negatives, has fantastic manual focus with legacy lenses, more native lenses are coming and it is less expensive. I’m getting off of the merry-go-round and looking forward to enjoying having two NEX bodies for travel/street photography and just taking photos.

20. hmm… no hint so far that it’s any good for manual focus… why can’t someone produce the classic rangefinder type of viewfinder and just add electronic focus confirmation spots around the center (manual focus) square as seen in the M series? correct me if i am wrong, i m not a technical guy, but i guess this can’t be too hard to do right? a classic manual focus viewfinder with a focusing screen behind, that’s supporting focus confirmation around the rest of the screen… anyways…
if fuji implemented a good method for manual focus, they might very well be in for the kill… sooner or later they will bring out a FF version (X-PRO2?)… if that’s the case i can see bad times coming for leica.. leica glass usable on a FF fuji with great iso performance and a switchable (or even hybrid – real hybrid i mean.. switchable between the two is not what i consider to be hybrid!) viewfinder would mean big (!) trouble for leica!

21. I’m slightly confused with the crop factor of these lenses, if they are subject to a factor of 1.5, then maybe the 35 f1.4 is a bit too long ? Maybe the full frame version is around the corner ?

• The 35mm lens becomes 53mm equiv., the practical difference between that and a true 50mm is, oh, about you leaning forward two inches while shooting. Unless you were expecting a 35mm field of view, in which case, yes there’s a big difference. Somewhere else (can’t remember where) said the rumor was a 23mm and a longer telephoto coming later.

• Very few 50mm primes are actually what they claim to be, Sigma 50mm 1.4 is a bit like a 48mm and some Canons are a bit like 52mm so this is no big deal.

22. that optional grip puzzles me a bit – are those leaked photographs with that optional grip or it’s the standard one and there will be much more pronounced one as optional extra – I guess I’ll have to wait another 7-8 hours 🙂 – but yes, I’m exciting, measured up my SnapR bag if this new camera would fit it and also done comparisons with my X100

23. I’m really glad for this announcement. It looks like it’s the first serious alternative to the Leica. I truly hope that the quality lives to the hype and that this camera doesn’t fall into the poor-man M8 status…
Although the set of lenses announced sounds a great start it makes me think “oh gosh, another lens format” and i’m wondering about a few things:
i) to which extend will Fuji invest in releasing new lenses (e.g. ulta-wide angular)
ii) will it be a zoom lenses? (e.g. something related to tri-elmar?)
iii) when Fuji releases a big brother (and I know that a lot of people are dying to have a full-frame alternative to leica), will the current lenses be compatible, or a yet another set of lenses will be developed?

What you guys think about this? Do you think is this important at all?

Cheers, T

24. The X-Pro will for sure be a great camera system, that will eat away Leica customers, if it does not fail in critical features like manual focus, useful viewfinder, image quality and color reproduction, ergonomics.

Apart from this, the best thing about the X-Pro is, that it will fill ebay with tons of X100 cams – at very low prices, which will be the right moment to grab a pre-owned X100.

25. So, is it just ordinary contrast based AF then? Too bad, the AF really had to be at least as fast as latest m43 or Nikon 1 system..

• I think the AF and MF will make or break this camera, there’s still hope it’s fast but if it’s slow then… what a waste, 99% but that 1% just screws it all up.

• that’s what I thought, but I don’t have big expectations when it comes to AF – I use my X100 in MF and zone focusing – but sometimes I’d love to have proper manual focusing ability, so either way X-Pro1 should be a winner for me. Focus by wire kills X100 – i don’t care about the rest of the annoyances that much (well, battery indicator – don’t get me started on that one)

• That would require a shutter in each of the lens’s and take away any opportunity to attach 3rd party lens’s.. so it was expected it wouldn’t have leaf shutter. No opps.

26. From what i have read so far it seems like a great camera and time to end my relationship with the DSLR…possibly.Wait for reviews to see. Thanks for the specs Steve.

• .
So this means, what? ..You don’t want the, er, m4/3 14-45mm zoom after all, then..?

27. Thanks for the news Steve.
Wonder how it will fit with Leica and other manual lens.
Noticed that there is no distance engraved on the lens barrel.
Also noticed that the aperture is Contax,Nikon style, opposite of Leica style.

Can not wait to see the pictures taken by the new device.

28. I was umming and ahhhing about whether to get an X10 or an X100 a week ago, not any more, I’m gonna wait a little longer 🙂

• Keep in mind that the X Pro 1 is pretty much the exact same dimensions as a Leica M8 or M9, while the X100 is a noticeably smaller. You can easily fit an X100 in a jacket pocket without the lens hood. Not that either are big cameras in the way a DSLR is.

• +1 Andy, this looks like a great camera and the M mount adaptor is sweet too. Can’t wait to see what this baby does in reality.

29. Noice, now just need a pic of the back, it’s shaping up to be the dominant mirrorless camera in one foul swoop. I really question why no one did this before, any of the m43 guys could have made something similar and taken all the sales that went with it… ???? I thought Oly would come through.. well time to sell my m43.

• I don’t know what I was expecting and it sure looks ugly with all the black and white and chrome but it seems pretty standard, for some reason I was thinking it’d be just as amazing as the rest of the camera.

• That’s what I thought. We haven’t seen a photo of the finished back yet, but the photorumors image of the unfinished prototype’s back has details that look the same as the recent photos – the protruding exposure comp knob, the round eyepiece, etc. I hope the prototype’s silly chrome trim on the back was scrapped for all-black controls.

• This looks like a great camera, no doubt. …but right now I am enjoying Fisheye to 350mm (equivalent) with the lenses I own for my 16mp MFT cameras. I am just going to sit here and watch how this whole Fuji thing develops, see some reviews and see what the camera really is AFTER all the hype. After all the excitement settled down, the X100 fell far short of the hype. Truly. Good camera…but not a GREAT camera….to many caveats, quirks and limitations, although capable of making great images.

• Who says the X100 fell short …..? There are countless X100 owners who saw through the hype anyway yet still value it for it’s superb image quality and suitability for purpose.

Don’t see too many people dissing the M9 and 35mm Summicron equivalent just because it’s high ISO performance is rubbish by comparison to the X100 either.

I don’t think ANYONE will ever make a GREAT camera …. just ones that some people love … and some will hate. One person’s ‘quirk’ or ‘limitation’ is another’s ‘ …. I can’t see what all the fuss is about!’

I think – as the real world reviews roll in – this new Fuji will lose it’s gloss too.

All cameras are usually the ‘next big thing’ on release …. only to be viewed as fault ridden hags the second they are superseded, or actually even hit the streets, such is the current rate of digital obsolescence.
