B&H Photo Now An Authorized Ricoh Dealer!

I was just informed that B&H Photo is now an authorized Ricoh Dealer and they carry and have full stock on the GXR camera, lenses and accessories! The GXR is one of my fave systems and with the 28 and 50 lenses, it makes for one of the best, of not THE best compact/high quality camera system. The body is $349 and I would highl;y recommend the 28 Lens module as well as the 50 lens module. With those two you would have a highly capable set and it would cost you less than a Leica X1 by itself!

Also, there has been new firmware released for the GXR that enhances it even further with new in camera filters that look really really good IMO. I own this camera and the two lens modules mentioned, and you can see my full review of it HERE in case you missed it.

Just wanted to pass on the news that you can now get Ricoh gear at B&H Photo!

  1. Hi there
Since there are no stores around me that carry the Ricoh products; I’m wondering if any GXR owner would be kind enough to send me a few generic raw files from either of the A12 modules.
I’d love to put a file or two through my work flow in Capture one and Lightroom 3

arashmoallemi@mac.com is my email or just an upload to

I would really really appreciate this.

    • Hello Arash,

I have yet to test extensively my new GXR with 28mm A12 module, but I’m happy to send you a few RAW files of informal test shots I took so far.

      Cheers
      Francesco

Thank you so much, looking forward to seeing them.
I have to say this is one of the reasons this site is one of favourites : )

  2. The modules are not listed under gxr. For example, the A12 module is listed simply as a lens.

  3. The gods look kindly upon the homely camera.

I can’t wait to see some results from this combo.

  4. I have had a second-hand GRD2 for the last few years and love it very very much. They are surprisingly capable little cameras in the right hands…. I like to think of the GRD series as the Derringers of photography!

A couple of weeks ago I bought the GXR with the A12 28MM lens/sensor module from http://www.popflash.com
I was extremely happy with the service and overall shopping experience and I’m absolutely loving this new camera. Here is one of my first test shots, taken in RAW mode at ISO 200 and f/2.5
Aspect ratio was 4:3 but I have now switched My Settings 1 and 2 to the 3:2 aspect ratio which makes the most of the sensor dimensions. I keep My Setting 3 to aspect ratio 16:9 which is also fun…

  5. I just checked out the B&H website for Ricoh GXR. They only have the P10 and S10 lenses…which are the ones Steve said to avoid. I still want this camera, but with the 28 and 50 mm lenses… guess I’ll wait a bit more.

  6. I picked up a GRD 3 last week, and you’r right…it’s a terrific little camera. I’m having so much more fun with it than I ever did with my D-Lux 4 or S90. I think a lot of that has to do with the simplicity, lack of superfluous options, and how natural it feels to use. I was sorely tempted to get the GXR, but I’m holding out to see how the X100 looks when it finally reaches stores.

    • I agree about the S90, which felt like plastic, but the only thing I’d miss on the Leica is the zoom. Yeah, I know it isn’t much of a zoom, but it has enough to be useable. I know I wouldn’t miss the lens cap and lens jutting out.

        • Nope, no zoom. Fixed 20mm equivalent lens. (OK, I guess there’s a digital zoom, but who uses that? Isn’t that what cropping in post is for?)
It’s a challenging little camera because it has only a fixed wide length, but it’s so nice to use.

  7. Tempting. Your review and ‘6’s caps make this all so tempting…but I am still figuring out the K5, which is holding my GAS in check…hahah…

    • Ashwin, I’d be interested to hear what you think so far of the K5. I’ve thought about ditching the 5DMkII in favor of the K5, based on the more compact size, the weather sealing, and the great primes available. I used to have a heavy investment in Canon L glass, but I’ve sold many of them off to fund various Leica-related things. So switching wouldn’t be that hard now.
