  1. Hi Steve, thank you, I enjoyed checking out your latest gear. Can I ask if you could give more details about the soft leather strap you used on the Sony RX1R Mark II? It looks like it has a greenish color (like military/olive). Very nice! What is the brand and where to get it? How long is it? Is it adjustable? Hoping to see pictures of the strap in its entirety. Thanks again Steve.

    • It’s a lovely strap, and I had two sent to me for review but without a name, company name, or info. So to be honest I have no idea who this strap belongs to or who sells it. If I find out I will post a review of it!

  2. Hi Steve. You do not need little DOF in your reviews. Put the lens at f/16 and we will see better images. Thank you. 😀

    • F/16 is the worst aperture on could use. Sorry, never been and never will be my style. Maybe if you shoot at 1.4 your images would be better 😉 If I want f/16 Id use my phone which would give me the same look as a $10k camera ta f/16. 😉 Have a great weekend.

  3. Thank you, Steve. I always get something out of your videos. It’s worth observing a couple of things:

    1. The best cameras are mirrorless, save for some specific applications, and there are a lot to choose from.

    2. There are at least four brands of mirrorless cameras, not counting phones, and there is a variety of functionality which is not found in other formats.

BTW thanks for implementing the HTML tags. Those are quite useful sometimes.

  4. Finally got the video to work ? Agree with a lot of what I saw on video. Get a camera you like – enjoy it and take some great photos !

  5. Hello Steve. About Petzval. Wouldn’t it give a dust problem when shooting without any aperture slide? Isn’t there a wide open slide available?

    • I shot the 85 like that for 9 months, never an issue. The aperture stops are loose on this 58, and if I had the 1.9 stop in, it would fall out within a minute. There are videos on youtube about this, and a fix but I found no issues with shooting it without the plate in. I’ll probably bend mine a tad and insert it soon 😉

    • in the beginning I fixed the aperture with tape but I bent it and it stays there now without any problems without tape.
You can take off the front part of the lens to clean the inner part, if you have a dust problem
and BTW: with dust you may get some other interesting results 🙂

  6. Did you find it odd that Olympus didn’t find a way to make the VF sit flush with the rest of the body?

  7. Always entertaining, Steve. You echo what a lot of people are saying, especially about the Olympus Pen F & its lenses, and the Sony RX10iii; there is some amazing kit there. You enthusiasm for Leica shows through too! I want the SL, but it’s not going to happen. I’d rather have a new Mini Cooper. 🙂

  8. Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it, I’m a long time fan and thanks to you I have a healthy case of GAS! I have an OMD-EM1(thanks to your earlier reviews) and looking to replace it with something faster and smaller for a family camera. I have two small boys and they are all over the place. Is the PEN F faster than the EM1? Also, I bought and sold the A6000, the JPEG quality just didn’t compare to the OMD-EM1 for me. I just really loved the look of the photos from the EM1 so much better even thought the a6000 was better at autofocusing. Does the A6300 have a lot better JPEG quality than the a6000? Any thoughts of yours would be welcome as I am itching to replace my EM1. Thanks again.

    • If JPEG is what you want, the Oly cameras do best IMO. The newer Sony’s have improved though, but the Olympus cameras are great for JPEG. I love the PEN-F. Focusing with moving kids comes down to the lens more than the camera these days. Get a nice fast lens, even the 12-40, and you should be fine.

      • Thanks for the response. Yes, it is JPEG I am looking for since I take lots of photos of the children to edit on my phone and send to family members or social media. For most of my personal shots I don’t want to mess with RAW, especially since I am now spoiled with the JPEG’s from the EM1.

    • Perhaps the new Panasonic gx80/85 and 15/1.7 or 42.5/1.7?
Small enough, fast, touchscreen focus and good jpegs that you can easily configure.

      I’m ordering one today 🙂
